Starting a Workout Routine

How many times have you said I will start working out on Monday and this time I promise I will stick to it? We have all been there whether it was a New Years resolution or just wanting to better our health. And I'm that when that Monday comes around you may work out for a week or so, but for some reason you cannot seem to get it to stick. I have been there before and after many times of failing at sticking to a workout I think I have finally figured out a way to stick with a workout routine for more than a couple of weeks.

1. Find an exercise you like:

Not every internet workout plan is for everyone. Maybe you hate running or maybe you aren't looking to gain muscle, but wouldn't mind seeing a few pounds come off. Whatever your goal may be pick an exercise that helps you achieve that goal and you like. More than likely if you are not a fan of the exercise you will end up stop working out.

2. Don't rely on others to make you go to the gym:

People are not always reliable. While you may think that is harsh there are just certain circumstances that come up in other people's life that will keep them from going to the gym or working out with you. You and your goals have to be the main thing that motivates you to go to the gym. I am not saying that you should not ask others to keep you accountable because that is important, but as far as counting on someone to always workout with you is very unrealistic. The biggest thing that will motivate you is always keeping your goals in mind. If you depend on a workout buddy and they give up working out than you will too.

3. Write down your workout plan:

This one I find is key to really keeping to a plan. Whether it is weekly or monthly sit down and write down your workout plan. Plan what you want to do each day and hang it up somewhere that you look everyday. This will help you to get the motivation to actually follow through with your plan. Going to the gym with a plan rather than just guessing and walking around saves you time and in the end will motivate you more to go rather than giving it up.

4. Switch up your plan:

Don't always do the same thing everyday. For you to want to keep going you will need to have a variety of different exercises. Not only does a variety keep you motivated, but it also is good for reaching your goals. If you keep doing the same thing over and over again your body adjusts and you don't get as much out of your workout as you did the first time you did that workout.

5. Set goals:

I know through out these tips I have mentioned setting goals, but setting goals is the most important thing to sticking to your workout plan. If you don't start with goals then you are already setting yourself up for failure. Goals help you to keep motivated if you don't have an end sight in mind then you will give up more quickly.

Setting up and sticking to a workout plan is not always easy. And by no means am I saying I am an expert, but these are definitely tricks I do in order to keep motivated. The biggest thing for you to do is change your mindset. If you change your mindset you can change your workout routine.
