Creating a Room You Love

Hi Friends!

Does anyone else find it extremely difficult to decorate their own bedroom? I have now lived in my house for about a 1 year and a half and I am still not happy with the way my bedroom looks. I have also saved my bedroom for the last place to decorate because I want it to be a place where my husband cannot only sleep and relax, but a place that expresses who we both are. The real problem.....I am struggling combining both of our styles into one room. I am more into contemporary/rustic look while he is more of a traditional look type of guy. Now I am not saying these types of styles can't go together, but I have struggled at times to really make both come alive in one room. When it has come to decorating my bedroom here are some tips that I have found make it easier.

1. Express yourself: In most cases you and your significant other are probably the only ones that are really going to see your bedroom. The occasional guest will probably see it, but most of the time you should make your room the way you want not what other people like to see. Your room should really incorporate elements that really say this is ME. I am a firm believer in filling your room with things you love. in my room i have a lot of pictures of friends and family because i love to remember those good times.

2. Pick a color scheme: I know that this may contradict my first tip a little bit because you are probably thinking well what if I am a very colorful and loud person. I would still suggest a color scheme. If you put too many colors in one room you may feel like you cannot relax let alone sleep because the room has so much going on.

3. Don't spend a fortune: your mind is probably going to your Pinterest board and you are thinking I can never afford to do all those fancy things. Wrong! there are wonderful places like Home Goods and tj maxx that offer great home decor at an affordable price. another tip when it comes to money don't feel like you have to get everything at once. slowly get decor for your room and you will find yourself spending less money.

4. Fill your walls. In my mind there is nothing worse than walking into a room and every single wall is blank. The room just feels empty even when you have furniture it. fill the walls with pictures and things that really express you. the sign in the picture at the top is one that hangs on my wall because i think it is so important to always tell the ones around you that you love them before you lay your head down for the day.

5.Have fun: Like with any room in your house you should have fun it with it. don't stress out about how your room looks if you like it then who really cares what other people think.

I found that when decorating any room in my house it takes time. It isn't going to happen over night and more than likely you are going to rearrange things multiple times. I am linking some of my favorite bedroom decor below.
